The British overseas territory of Gibraltar, a limestone outcrop on the southern tip of the Iberian peninsula, occupies both a strategic and commanding position at the western gateway to the Mediterranean Sea.

Gibraltar has historically been a popular port, complete with its own portfolio of maritime services, including its own yacht registry. Yachts registered in Gibraltar are British vessels and as such they are entitled to all the same privileges afforded to vessels registered at other British ports of registry.

British vessels can seek assistance from any British Consulate or Embassy throughout the world under guidance provided by the UK, which is a primary party to all international conventions.
